Tulapanji Rice

Lokpuran Mythology

Long ago in the humble fields of Dinguar, there lived a poor but kind-hearted farmer named Basudev. His family struggled to make ends meet, but his generosity knew no bounds. One day, a visiting monk saw young Basudev arrive at his doorstep, their tattered clothes filled with hunger and fatigue. Despite his own hardships, Basudev welcomed them warmly and cooked whatever little he had.

While the fields, the guests witnessed an open Basudev’s wife dutifully fetched a pot from their small kitchen. Just then, a calamity struck — a fierce fire broke out, engulfing the mud houses of the village. Panic spread among the villagers, and Basudev, moved by a divine instinct, poured the water onto the flames. Miraculously, the fire was extinguished in an instant. The villagers stood in awe, convinced that Basudev possessed some supernatural power.

The very night, when the fire’s destruction left the villagers hungry and destitute, they turned to Basudev for help. Faced with the cries of his neighbours and guests, he prayed fervently to the heavens, asking for guidance. In answer to his plea, a divine voice filled the air, declaring: “Your selflessness has pleased me. Tell me, Basudev, what do you wish for?”

With humility, Basudev replied, “We are hungry, O Lord. Grant us food that we may live and help others.” The voice echoed again: “Take the pot of water and pour it onto the barren soil.” Following the divine command, Basudev poured the water, and behold — Tulipakri was born.

Surrounded by rich farmland, the fields turned green and bloomed into lush tulip meadows, each flower crowned with an exquisite aroma.

To this day, during the harvest season, villagers from neighbouring areas come to witness the miracle. From that land, the legendary rebirth of prosperity and divine blessing. From that day forward, Tulipakri, the extraordinary treasure of Dinguar, a reminder of kindness, humility, and the extraordinary gifts that come from selfless acts.
